The Analog Phaser Module APM 111 is a re-creation of a common effects chain of running a signal through two independent phasers working either in tandem or in different directions depending on your choice. But the APM 111 is far more than just two phasers. It is like having a room full of classic phaser boxes available 24/7 with a turn of a knob. And as an added bonus, if you need even more creamy phasing goodness, just run the signal back through the phasers again with the "Regenerate" section!
Why we like it.
A phaser is different than a chorus. A phaser is an audio signal processing technique used to filter a signal by creating a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum. The position of the peaks and troughs are typically modulated so that they vary over time, creating a sweeping effect. These sweeping effects are what make phasers really cool and musically unique. And most modern musicians have no clue how kick butt a phaser can be.
What about "all pass" filters?
Most classic phasers, cascade a series of controllable "all-pass" circuits to produce 360 degrees of phase-shifted signal above the all-pass cutoff frequency. These buffered all-pass circuits generally had a single capacitor which (partially) sets the phase-crossover frequency. In almost every classic phase shifter out there, except for the Univibe (shift frequencies are cleaverly staggered in the Univibe), these capacitors were set at the same frequency value. What did this mean? If you take a typical four stage phaser as an example, this would mean that all four stages are shifting signal at the exact same frequency location. In version 2.0 coming soon, we decided that the APM 111 would include the classic "all pass" filter setup and 15 other filter types- way more options than any typical phaser. Yes, the APM 111 will give musicians even greater options of setting the phaser frequency, choosing different types of filters, adjusting the envelope of the shift and so much more!
Why we think you will like it.
We did our best to capture the vibe of old transistor boxes made by Electro Harmonix*, MXR*, Boss*, U-Vibe*, etc. Plus we added new tricks such as two step LFOs, a Regenerate section, and a vintage delay to round it out. There just is nothing else on the market quite like the APM 111.
